Overview
Coogee is a beachside suburb of local government area City of Randwick, 8 kilometres south-east of the Sydney central business district, in the state of New South Wales. Coogee is one of Australia’s more densely populated areas, with apartment buildings in every style from the 1930s onwards and some separate and semi-detached houses. Perfectly located alongside a spectacular beach, Coogee is now one of Sydney’s most sought-after suburbs and a popular destination for tourists. The beach offers excellent BBQ and picnic facilities making it an ideal place for family and friends to gather and enjoy the beach and superb views.
The commercial area of Coogee is located along Coogee Bay Road and Arden Street. The vibrant atmosphere of Coogee features many outstanding cafes and restaurants. Major features of the area include The Coogee Bay Hotel, Coogee Beach Plaza, Coogee Beach, Coogee Oval, Coogee Surf Lifesaving Club, Coogee Beach Aquatic Reserve, many parks and reserves, Wedding Cake Island, plus various baths. Primary School and South Coogee Primary School are the local State schools. Coogee Boys Preparatory School and St Brigid’s Primary School are also in the area. Bus services operate along Coogee Bay Road, Arden Street (forming a bus interchange location) and throughout the suburb. There are usually lots of taxis in the area and there is a late night taxi rank on Friday and Saturday nights.
