Overview

The Sydney beachside suburb of Maroubra is 10 kilometres south east of the CBD and is the largest suburb in Randwick City.  Maroubra’s most outstanding feature is Maroubra Beach. Here, you will find an outdoor gym, a great playground for the kids, excellent fishing spots along the beach and rocks and an assortment of cafes and restaurants. Other landmarks include the Bowen Library and multi-purpose centre, the largest Council park (Heffron Park) and Des Renford Swimming and Leisure Centre. Maroubra has a friendly family atmosphere, consisting mainly of homes but there has been more development recently and hence many more residential units around Maroubra town centre.

Children are well catered for in Maroubra, some of the schools in Maroubra are: Maroubra Junction Public School, The French School, South Sydney High School, St Spyridon College, Our Lady of the Annunciation School, Maroubra Montessori School, St Aidens, St Mary and St Joseph Primary School.

Pacific Square is the major shopping centre in Maroubra Junction which includes major super markets Woolworths, Coles and Aldi, other shops can be found along Anzac Parade and Maroubra Road and surrounding streets. Dudley’s Emporium is a smaller shopping centre which was built in 1912. Lexington Place is a somewhat infamous shopping district, and South Maroubra Shopping village, adjacent to the Sands Hotel, has a smaller collection of shops including a pharmacy and supermarket. Most locals travel by bus or car. Regular bus services run from Maroubra Junction to the city, Bondi Junction, Randwick and Waverley to the north and Eastgardens, the airport, Rockdale and Burwood to the south.
